Perry was born in Chicago to actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback) Her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. However, her parents did not allow her to act until she turned an adult because of the impact stress might be able to have on their daughter. Perry said that she was nervous to be an actor at the age of 16, but she began doing shows at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer from Boston University. Perry began her career as an actress in New York after graduation, performing in minor roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry go back to California to work as a theater actress. Perry performed with her mom on stage in The Other Place at Broadway the previous year. In 2015, she appeared alongside Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning Drama Anna Christie. Odyssey Theatre Ensemble Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes of The Family, an ABC drama The Family in 2016. Her father played her on The ABC Drama Scandal. In addition, she played her older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - an CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The role was given an audition to the actress, even though she is a relative to the character.
